Think Trucks Are Slow? Think Again

Trucks usually bring to mind the theme of power. Their commercials over the years have been that way too. Trucks carrying large payloads or pulling incredible loads. This has made some people think trucks are slow.

The trucks of today have become the opposite of slow! They are incredibly fast, while still having the power to pull large loads. One of the fastest and most powerful trucks is the new 2021 FORD F150.

Here are a few reasons this truck has been blowing away the competition.

Ford F150 Engine Options

Ford has boosted their engine options, which have increased the FORD F150 performance. The base engine is a 3.3-liter V6 with 290hp and 265 b-ft of torque.

They quickly go up with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 325hp and 400lb-ft of torque. They have a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 with 250hp and 440lb-ft of torque.

Their twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 has two different options. One comes with 400hp and 500lb-ft of torque. The other adds an electric motor, which increases its power to 430hp and 570lb-ft of torque.

Our favorite is the 5.0-liter V8 Coyote engine. It has 400 horsepower and 410lb-ft of torque, but it is very easy to upgrade with a few simple modifications.

Simple Upgrades to Increase Performance

The Ford F150 review talks about the increase in speed in 2021. The F150 has always been fast, but we made a simple modification to see what happened.

We took a sports model F150 with a V8 Coyote to start with. We changed the tires and put a lower kit on it and of course, added tinting! The Florida Sun is hot!

Then we added a simple 3.0L Whipple Supercharger to see if there was a big change in the Ford F150 speed.

The beauty of using Whipple parts is how they do all the work of making the calibration changes for you! All you have to do is download them. Here are the results of our test.

Stock Run

We tested the stock run without the engine changes on a hot summer day, which is not the best condition, but had respectable times for 3 runs

  • 2.17s for 60 ft
  • 14.43s for 1/4 mile
  • 95-96mph range

Modified Run

After we put the Whipple on, there was a noticeable difference in our runs.

  • 1.76s for 60 ft
  • 11.87s for 1/4 mile
  • 117 mph avg

We videoed every aspect of the changes and the tests. You can watch them here: The Record-Breaking Lethal Performance F-150
