Many of us love to travel and fitness. As much as we might enjoy exercise and travel, it is hard to ignore the obvious fact that these activities can have an impact on the environment. Your carbon footprint grows every time you buy something new and every time you go on a trip.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

While it might not be possible to eliminate the carbon footprint of these activities entirely, there is a lot you can do to make travel and fitness more eco-friendly. You just need to be a little more thoughtful and take the time to consider the effect of every purchase.

Shop for Eco-friendly Products

When you buy workout or travel gear, think about the sustainability of the products you buy. Look for products that are made from sustainable materials and from brands that have a commitment to protecting the environment. As an example, when you need new workout shoes, go with organic cotton sneakers from an eco-friendly brand.

Eat Less Meat

Changing your diet is one obvious way to improve your health. Along with the many health benefits of eating less meat, you can also reduce your carbon footprint by having a few meatless meals every week. Meat production not only contributes to CO2 in the atmosphere, but livestock animals also create a significant amount of methane gas. This is especially true for meats like beef and lamb.

Buy a Bike

Your car is probably one of the biggest contributors to your carbon footprint. Buying a bike and using it for many of your shorter trips can be a way to reduce your carbon footprint while also getting a workout. If riding a bike isn’t for you, you could choose to walk instead. Walking can be a good eco-friendly way to get around and with a nice pair of sustainable sneakers, it will be even better for the environment.

Avoid Air Travel

Flying might be unavoidable for some trips, but you should choose other transportation options when you can. If your destination is not that far away, check to see if you can buy a train ticket instead of taking a flight. When you get to your destination, you should also consider using mass transit instead of taking taxis or renting a car.

Choose Reusable Products

Buying reusable products is always better than buying disposable. As a person who loves to exercise, one of the first things you should look at is your water. If you are buying water in a disposable water bottle, you should get yourself a nice reusable bottle you can use every day. This will not only cut into your carbon footprint, but it will also mean that you are sending less trash to a landfill.

Reducing your carbon footprint does not mean giving up your love of travel and exercise. You just need to be more conscious of your decisions. As a final tip, give up your gym membership and do more outdoor workouts and bodyweight exercises. This type of workout routine is better for the environment and you can easily take it on the road when you travel.
