What Are the Best Ways to Revise?

Revision is a process that students should follow before appearing for exams. Examinations are a crucial event in everyone’s life however, it has been noted that students never prepare properly which leads to a low grade in the subject.

What Are the Best Ways to Revise?

You can easily score full marks if you revise before the exam paper properly. Read on to learn some of the best ways to revise that might help you improve your exam scores:

1. Start preparing early

Focus on early preparation for the examinations. A lot of students tend to study a few days before the exams. This should be avoided to score good grades. Start your preparation earlier so that some of the load is reduced. Try to learn and practice small portions of difficult subjects such as physics, chemistry and mathematics. This will help you cover everything in sequential order and you might not have to give an exam with incomplete preparation. Make sure that you never appear for exams with incomplete preparation as it causes a lot of fear of missing out and affects you and your grades negatively.

2. Mark important questions and topics

Try to mark important questions and topics whenever a lesson is taught in class. The past surveys suggest that CBSE exams are based on the curriculum that is mentioned in the NCERT books. Important questions and topics reappear in examinations almost every year. So, try to make a list of all the important questions and prepare detailed answers for each one of them. This will not only help you save time but will also help you retain answers in a physical form. At the time of the examination, do not forget to revise these questions. Follow this procedure for all subjects. Keep the marked books and revision notes together so that you don’t lose them. Try your best to remember and understand the concept behind these questions and topics. Then you should use your knowledge to make judgments about the information.

3. Do not practice fresh topics before exams

Do not involve yourself in preparing fresh topics as this does not generally work in your favour. It creates a lot of stress and panic. To avoid situations like these you should stay away from fresh topics. It is advised that children must not engage in studying new topics as it also tends to drain the revision time.

4. Attempt sample and previous year question papers

Try to solve questions from the sample and previous year question papers. These act as keys to success in getting full marks in the examinations. Try not to waste money and time on reference books and instead practice from the previous year papers. You can find both of them on the internet for free. Solving these papers is enough to boost your preparations for the final examination. Take these papers seriously and solve them with a great amount of zeal. These help you analyse the level of the exam paper and helps you identify the true level of marks you can secure. Examination trends reveal that most of the questions in exams are repeated during consecutive years. So, it is ideal that you solve these papers to practice every kind of question.

5. Prepare a plan for revision

Develop a plan that will help you with the revision process. Make sure that you divide time equally and do not forget to devote it to every subject. Give equal importance to every subject and try not to miss practising Hindi and English since a lot of students don’t take them seriously.

6. Focus on your weak points

Analyze your weak points and focus on them. Solve a lot of questions based on the concepts that you find difficult. Try to understand and learn the concepts that these questions are based on and then only attempt to solve them. You will have to do a lot of hard work on these weak areas so that you can convert them into your strengths. Excessive work on weaker areas will help you attain full marks in the examinations.

7. Write neatly

Representations matter a lot so practice your handwriting. Make sure it is legible and clean. How you write on your answer sheets makes a direct impact on your scores. Well written answers get more marks than untidy ones. Try to underline the important points of the answers and make boxes around them while solving numerical questions. Make sure that you draw neat and well-labelled diagrams in biology as they offer more marks. Write your answers in bullet points and give equal spacing between each point.

8. Learn the importance of time management

Studies suggest that a lot of students are unable to complete their exam papers within duration because of their inefficiency to manage time appropriately. Try to reduce your sleeping hours from 8 to 6.5. Use that 1.5 hours judiciously to practise questions. Use your free periods in school as well. Indulge in self-study and make proper notes for every subject. This will not only help in saving time but also improve your understanding of the concepts. Try your best to study for more than 7 hours a day if you wish to score full marks in examinations.

9. Be calm and confident

A lot of students are unable to score well because they get anxious. They panic and are unable to focus. Try not to lose your focus during the examinations and try to stay as calm as you can. Relax well a day before the examination and do not revise anything during the night. Sleep properly for 7 hours and wake up early in the morning. Revise from your notes and do not pick any fresh topics. Make sure that you practice your diagrams and equations. Go to school with a relaxed and free mind.

10. Read the question properly

Read every question three times during the examination and try to visualise the numerical. Attempt shorter questions first so that you can give an ample amount of time to lengthy questions. Do not lose focus and solve every question with the same level of concentration. Devise a plan and write the required information after assessing the type of question. Follow the step by step procedure while writing the answer. Cross-check your answers and make sure that you attempt every question. Do not miss details.
